Name:
Mioplosus labracoides
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Kemmerer, Wyoming
Size: Fish is 11.3 inches long
This is a very large example of Mioplosus labracoides from the Eocene of Wyoming. This distinct predatory fish has two large dorsal fins, which is pretty cool. The fish exhibits very good detail and nice bone structure. The orange-brown fossil contrasts beautifully with the cream-colored matrix. The colorful fish is beautifully showcased on the somewhat oval plate of shale. This is a very large specimen (almost a foot long!) of this uncommon predatory fish from the Green River Shale.
