This is a large multiple fossil seed fern plate from the famous location at St. Clair, Pennsylvania. There are many, MANY fronds on the plate. The seed ferns are preserved as a thin film of white pyrophyllite on black shale. The fossils have great detail preserved, naturally clustered on the large plate. There is also a long branch preserved on the plate, which is somewhat unusual. And the back side of the plate is just COVERED with ferns! This is a very interesting slab of Coal-Age plants from this classic site.
