This is a cool cephalopod fossil. This is a large specimen of a belemnite, Cylindroteuthis oweni, from the Jurassic of Russia. Belemnites were a squid-like animals, closely related to a modern-day cuttlefish. This bullet-shaped belemnite is complete and very 3-dimensional. The fossil is free of matrix - the back side is missing some shell, but the display side is beautiful. The cephalopod has wonderful orange-brown coloration and a natural transclucent quality. And it is FIVE inches long - wow! This is a very nice specimen of a large Cylindroteuthis belemnite - one of the largest fossil belemnites that ever lived.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
