Formation: Lycoptera Layers
Location: Liaoning Province, China
Size: Fish is 3.15 inches long
Here is a wonderful specimen of Lycoptera davidi from the Jurassic of China. This colorful fossil exhibits superb detail - the entire bone structure is extremely well defined, and the fins and tail are nicely displayed. The natural orange color is even preserved, which is somewhat unusual. The large fish is quite distinct and contrasts beautifully with the tan matrix. The fossil is well showcased on the large, natural plate of shale. This is a very fine example of this fish from the Time of the Dinosaurs.
